prayer vigil held Saturday, September 15, 2001. It seems fitting as we
remember the anniversary of 9/11 to share it once again. Permission to copy is granted and encouraged.
Dear Lord,
We’re still hoping we’ll wake up. We’re still hoping we’ll open a sleepy eye and think, What a horrible dream.
But we won’t, will we, Father? What we saw was not a dream. Planes
did gouge towers. Flames did consume our fortress. People did perish. It
was no dream and, dear Father, we are sad.
There is a ballet dancer who will no longer dance and a doctor who
will no longer heal. A church has lost her priest, a classroom is minus a
teacher. Cora ran a food pantry. Paige was a counselor and Dana,
dearest Father, Dana was only three years old. (Who held her in those
final moments?)
We are sad, Father. For as the innocent are buried, our innocence is
buried as well. We thought we were safe. Perhaps we should have known
better. But we didn’t.
And so we come to you. We don’t ask you for help; we beg you for it.
We don’t request it; we implore it. We know what you can do. We’ve read
the accounts. We’ve pondered the stories and now we plead, Do it again,
Lord. Do it again.
Remember Joseph? You rescued him from the pit. You can do the same for us. Do it again, Lord.
Remember the Hebrews in Egypt? You protected their children from the angel of death. We have children, too, Lord. Do it again.
And Sarah? Remember her prayers? You heard them. Joshua? Remember his
fears? You inspired him. The women at the tomb? You resurrected their
hope. The doubts of Thomas? You took them away. Do it again, Lord. Do it
again.
You changed Daniel from a captive into a king’s counselor. You took
Peter the fisherman and made him Peter an apostle. Because of you, David
went from leading sheep to leading armies. Do it again, Lord, for we
need counselors today, Lord. We need apostles. We need leaders. Do it
again, dear Lord.
Most of all, do again what you did at Calvary. What we saw here on
that Tuesday, you saw there on that Friday. Innocence slaughtered.
Goodness murdered. Mothers weeping. Evil dancing. Just as the ash fell
on our children, the darkness fell on your Son. Just as our towers were
shattered, the very Tower of Eternity was pierced.
And by dusk, heaven’s sweetest song was silent, buried behind a rock.
But you did not waver, 0 Lord. You did not waver. After three days in
a dark hole, you rolled the rock and rumbled the earth and turned the
darkest Friday into the brightest Sunday. Do it again, Lord. Grant us a
September Easter.
We thank you, dear Father, for these hours of unity. Disaster has
done what discussion could not. Doctrinal fences have fallen.
Republicans are standing with Democrats. Skin colors have been covered
by the ash of burning buildings. We thank you for these hours of unity.
And we thank you for these hours of prayer. The Enemy sought to bring
us to our knees and succeeded. He had no idea, however, that we would
kneel before you. And he has no idea what you can do.
Let your mercy be upon our President, Vice President, and their
families. Grant to those who lead us wisdom beyond their years and
experience. Have mercy upon the souls who have departed and the wounded
who remain. Give us grace that we might forgive and faith that we
might believe.
And look kindly upon your church. For two thousand years you’ve used her to heal a hurting world.
Do IT again, Lord. Do it again.
Through Christ, Amen.
A young man finds himself suddenly traveling between alternate worlds in search of parts of a map that was tattooed onto a man's skin. This map explains how to travel throughout the various worlds via ley lines. Bad guys want the map. Good guys try to protect the map. There is humor, suspense, action. It kept me interested throughout and I wanted the adventure to never end. A really good read.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com <http://BookSneeze®.com> book review bloggers program.
Perhaps it is because yarn mates and produces more yarn.

Perhaps it is because yarn is clingy and follows one around to every room.

Perhaps it is just that it is easier to grab a quick fix of knitting when there are bits of knitting close to hand.

In any case, yarn will not stay in one place. I have been trying to cage it up for years and still find uncaged, wild yarn roaming the great vastness of my tiny house.

Do Borrowers steal yarn and move it about for the fun of befuddling me?Orghlaithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13644654188514721619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35019644.post-43739756206872733682012-01-05T17:30:00.000-05:002012-01-05T17:30:28.041-05:00Excuse me but What? What is wrong with this recipe?
When you walk in the door
Get out Pantry Items
Get out Tools
Fill a large saucepan with 1 1/2 cups water, 1 cup rinsed quinoa and 1 tsp salt and set over high heat
Assemble the ingredients
Prep
Wipe the mushrooms clean and slice in 1/2 inch pieces.
Pull leaves from rosemary and chop to yield 2 Tbsp.
Salt and pepper the pork cutlets.
Pour 1 cup white wine for the recipe
Start Cooking

Reality:
Pour 1 cup white wine for drinking. Gulp quickly.
Pour another cup. Sip slowly.
Pour another cup. Debate cooking while staring into wine glass.
Pour another cup. Contemplate the meaning of dinner.
Empty bottle. Realize that dinner cannot be accomplished without more wine.
Sit in chair and drain last of wine from glass.
At some point decide it is too late for dinner and go to bed.Orghlaithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13644654188514721619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35019644.post-37467556763863803982011-12-25T04:09:00.001-05:002011-12-25T04:09:53.853-05:0012 DaysOrghlaithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13644654188514721619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35019644.post-6048520827200650062011-12-23T22:47:00.001-05:002011-12-23T22:47:42.725-05:00Christmas Alone AgainOrghlaithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13644654188514721619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35019644.post-31694663607899228422011-12-18T17:23:00.002-05:002011-12-18T17:23:36.707-05:00Christmas WishOrghlaithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13644654188514721619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35019644.post-33609578205461114732011-12-04T20:16:00.000-05:002011-12-04T20:16:18.682-05:00Cello WarsOrghlaithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13644654188514721619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35019644.post-58873987762997052612011-11-27T15:44:00.001-05:002011-11-27T15:44:27.509-05:00GratitudeOrghlaithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13644654188514721619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35019644.post-2175127723611171692011-11-21T00:19:00.001-05:002011-11-21T00:20:40.233-05:00There and Back Again

This is the third time to rip out the first sleeve. Now to reknit it.
Boring does not begin to describe this sweater. I can only hope to finally get this sleeve right and begin the second sleeve.
Christmas is getting too close for the long list of things yet to make.
Can we have an extra two weeks between now and December 25?Orghlaithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13644654188514721619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35019644.post-86802502614269633432011-11-11T23:18:00.001-05:002011-11-11T23:18:33.358-05:00Knit-Rip-Knit
I started Dan from Berroco and got to the underarm decreases. That blue is really a nice teal. These are Special Olympics colors. The yarn is Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Cloud, Marina, and (surprise) Red.

Of course now all Christmas knitting is so far behind that everything is now aimed for Christmas 2012. But I don’t think anyone will mind. As slow as I am at mailing things it would be 2012 before they get them anyway.

Especially for my sister who only lives about one hour away. And yet I see her about twice a year. Part of that however is her ability to hide.

She is really good at it.

Back to Dan. Or Gnome. Or Fish. Or maybe Mawata.
Orghlaithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13644654188514721619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35019644.post-1733240569158980882011-11-08T19:29:00.001-05:002011-11-08T19:29:58.820-05:00This Took Forever
For those folks who make and gift items to unappreciative folks.

Originally From Sublime Stitching. Giving bad reviews isn’t fun.

Lead Like Ike is about following D.D. Eisenhower’s style during WWII when he was preparing for the assaults that turned the tide for the Allies. It was an interesting read with some facts that were unknown to me. But I found it to be too much of a stretch to use his tactics in today’s global economy.

If you are interested in some lesser known facts about the struggles of a lower-grade officer trying to pull together a multi-national force, then you might find this book intriguing. But if you are looking for strategies to use in today’s market this book may not be helpful.

I cannot recommend this book for its readability either. There is much repetition. In my opinion (and this is only my opinion) this book has little to offer.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com <http://BookSneeze®.com> book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Isn’t it pretty?

This pattern whipped me into smithereens. Every row has slipped stitches which means that every row is shortened. Which means that in order to knit the full length a person has to knit twice as many stitches. It took such a long time to make any progress that I lost heart before sock one was finished. And then there was the second sock to finish. I wanted to quit so badly!!!! But then I would have to admit defeat.

So then.
